What I Have Learnt Through the Process of Quitting my Banking Job

Growing up with the belief, that a government or banking job would be my ultimate dream come true, which would subsequently offer me financial security in the future, I sought for that dream.  And very soon, “success” came my way! I was informed that I was one of the five applicants who had successfully passed the procedure of entering into the banking sector!  I was given a banking job! Amongst hundreds of applicants, I was one of the five successful ones!

Soon after I joined the bank, however, my excitement and enthusiasm turned into confusion, frustration, and an endless effort to fit in. It was very obvious that I was the miss fit and the odd one in the story.

Years passed by, with ups and downs, with many challenges to overcome, and with unfair situations involving both myself and others, which slowly but surely were pushing me out of the painful comfort zone that I was in, and into a ‘shifting’ period of change and transformation.

A comfort zone is like a wily beast and the sense of security a job offers, is but an illusion. Before you know it, days, months, years pass by into languish situations. Before you know it, you slip into an easy, but uncomfortable situation and into a state of languish.

Though hard work on developing myself, re-discovering who I am, and building my mind and spirit, I bravely took a leap into the ocean of life. A life full of the unknown, scary but exciting at the same time, but with a promise of fulfilling my dreams! My uniqueness would finally be shown to the world.

There is a point here though, which  I feel must be known. Quitting was not part of any retirement plan which was available at that time, but instead, quitting came with no financial incentives or compensation, as it was considered as a voluntary exit.

Today, almost two years after quitting my banking job, I am joyful and blissfully happy; life has never been so good and it keeps unfolding more and more beautiful experiences.

Here are some of the lessons I have learnt:

  • Freedom is NOT free! “And if I want to be free I have to be me” this is what my teacher and mentor Bob Proctor keeps saying.  No one is responsible for my freedom other than myself, no one is responsible for my happiness other than me.  In order to seek my happiness, it is essential to look from within.

  • You will be surprised with the talents and abilities you already have! There is a treasure within us all which we are unaware of. Once we start learning more about ourselves, pieces of our true self start coming to the surface.  Our true self starts shining and new ideas and opportunities begin to unfold.

  • When we work on our life’s purpose, magical things happen!  When a greater idea seeks expression through you, you don’t lead any more, Father takes place instead, and His greatness leads your path.  We only need to trust and let go.

  • When you find a job you love you will never work another day in your life!No matter how many hours I put in, it is always such a joy and so fulfilling, a path of growth and excitement, creativity and service.

I was feeling uncomfortable to go after my dreams but at the same time i was feeling uncomfortable NOT to go after my dreams. Staying at my "secure job" was keeping me stack and far away from what i was meant to be. Thank you Maria for showing me the way. Grateful!!!
